The artists

I was born in Wales. We bought land in Kamilari in 2002 and built a house. I trained as an engineer and spent my working life in IT. I have spent more time using PowerPoint than a paintbrush. About eight years ago a friend started an informal art group. We meet on Sundays, paint, provide encouragement and have a potluck lunch. A teacher (Sharma Fenton – Saktouria) gave me an introduction to painting and acrylics. Later, I took some workshops in mosaics and linocuts. I take most of my inspiration from the plants growing in our garden. My work has no purpose other than the enjoyment it gives me.

PREFACE

My art originally resorted to the "rubbish" of consumer society, so it was obvious to craft the first objects primarily from scrap. Finds and "rubbish" remain an inspiration for my creative work today. I understand this work as an exchange between the material found and specifically chosen on the one side and its history on the other side, a history that is always the history of humans as well. The work of the artist, too, takes place within the framework
predetermined by society. Nevertheless, "freedom"exists in thosemoments, in which art does not have to followeconomic necessities in every detail.

ΠΡΟΛΟΓΟΣ
Αφετηρία της δραστηριότητάς μου ήταν η χρησιμοποίηση των απορριμάτων της Καταναλωτικής κοινωνίας.Τα πρώτα αντικείμενα προέρχονται λοιπόν από χρησιμοποιημένα υλικά, τα οποία είναι ακόμη και σήμερα πηγή ιδεών της δημιουργικής μου εργασίας.
Αντιλαμβάνομε την τέχνη ως ανταλλαγή ανάμεσα σε αντικείμενα που βρήκα ή άλλα σκόπιμα επιλεγμένα και την ιστορία τούτων των αντικειμένων. Αυτή η σχέση είναι και η ιστορία ανθρώπων Η σημερινή κοινωνία συνδέει την ύπαρξη .

των ανθρώπων / καλλιτεχνών με το χρήμα και το εμπόρευμα. Η ελευθερία, ακόμη και στην τέχνη, είναι μονάχα δυνατή μονο εκεί που η οικονομία υπηρετεί τον άνθρωπο.

I was born in Argentine and I am living in Kamilari since 2014.
I am a Literature Professor and a painter. In Argentine I took many  painting-workshops.
As I paint, I think about a space or a place that I would like to inhabit; a little natural world that is -at times- spontaneous, sincere, kind, and other times is terrible; a personal cosmos that contains me and that I create from memories, images, words, people, love and life.
I fight and delight in the process: I scratch, tear and drip colours.I build cities and blueprints, objects and landscapes and natural atmospheres; I conceal and reveal layer upon layer, I go forward and backguards and I find in the contradiction an image in which I identify myself as if in a mirror, surrounded by a breathing world.

Είμαι  Ο Χρήστος, γεννημένος στην Αθήνα αλλα ρίζες απο την Καμηλάρι και τώρα εδώ για πάντα.
Αγαπώ το χωριό μου και την φύση και θέλω να ζωγραφίζω ότι βλέπω και να μοιράζω μαζί σας.

I'm Xristos, born in Athens but roots from Kamilari and here forever.
I love my village and nature and I want to paint what i see and share with you.

 Δεν έχω πολλά να γράψω  γιατί είμαι μόνο 11 χρονών. Το όνομά μου είναι  (Ευα)γγελία.Λ.

Είμαι γεννημένη στο Καμιλάρι από γονείς και παππούδες με ρίζες καμιλαριανές. Αγαπώ την οικογένειά μου, αγαπώ το σχολείο μου,  είμαι μαθήτρια τον Δημοτικού και τα μαθήματα που ξεχωρίζω  είναι τα μαθηματικά και η φυσική. Αγαπώ πάρα πολή  να ζωγραφίσω γιατί αισθάνομαι  ευτυλισμένη και Γαλήνη.

Ευχαριστώ πολύ Τήνο δασκαλα μου στην ζωγραφική τύν Φυλακτή Ζαχαριουδάκη από Τήνο Νύβριτο πού μέ βοήθησε νά είμαι ελεύθερη οταν ζωγραφιζω και μέ δίδαξε νά παρουσίαζε σοστά τα αισθήματα μου, με σωστές γραμμές και χρώματα.

Αγαπώ πολύ το Καμιλάρι γιατί είναι ο τόνος μου και είναι πολύ όμορφο.

For my part, I haven't so much to tell as I am only 11 years old. I  am a scholar of elementary school but I know very well what I love and what I prefer.
I love very much Kamilari, my native village and the native land of my parents.
I love very much my family, my school (the lessons of mathematics and natural science) and I am happy when I am painting because I feel pleasure and serenity. I thank from my heart my teacher of painting for two years, Filakti Zachariadaki from Nivritos as she helps me to feel free when I paint and shows how to use the brushstrokes and colours correctly

Von meiner Seite gibt es nicht viel zu erzählen, da ich nur 11 Jahre alt bin. Ich bin Schülerin der Grundschule aber ich weiß sehr wohl was ich liebe und kenne meine Vorlieben
Ich liebe Kamilari sehr, das Dorf wo ich geboren wurde und das Dorf meiner Eltern
Ich liebe meine Familie sehr , meine Schule (insbesonders die Mathematik- und Naturkundestunden) und ich bin glücklich wenn ich male, denn da erfahre ich Freude und Gelassenheit. Vom Herzen danke ich meine Mallehrerin seit zwei Jahren, Filakti Zachariadaki aus Nivritos, denn sie hilft mir mich frei zu fühlen und zeigt mir wie ich die Pinselstriche und Farben richtig verwende.

Meine  Arbeiten müssen nicht auf den ersten Blick eindeutig erkennbar sein.   

Ich mag die graphische Anordnung in Baumrinden oder bei den Strukturen der Pflanzen, ich liebe Licht-spiegelungen im Wasser oder das Rätselhaftes, Indirekte in der Perspektive von winzigen Details z.B. wenn Olivennetze in Schichten gebündelt unter den Bäumen Kretas  in der Sonne liegen. Es kann aber auch sein, dass mich die abblätternde Farbe eines Gebäudes begeistert. Trotzdem ist es nicht die exakte Widergabe, um die es mir geht, obwohl ich immer wieder staune über die wunderschönen Strukturen, die  in der Natur schon immer als Kunstwerke vorhanden waren.

Mich faszinieren die Optionen, die in Motiven und Details enthalten sind und die durch eine digitale Bearbeitung entdeckt werden können.  Indem ich vom Basisfoto abweiche, immer wieder  neue Variationen (er)finde und in die Abstraktion gehe, Farben und Ausschnitt verändere, versuche ich, meinen eigenen Bereich zwischen Fotografie und „digitaler“  Malerei oder Grafik zu finden. Es ist das Spiel mit Farben und Formen, das ich liebe und ich brauche dazu weder Pinsel noch Leinwand.

Ich lebe  in Norddeutschland und auf Kreta, habe 2 erwachsene Kinder. Seit einigen Jahren bin nicht mehr in einem Beruf gebunden und viel gereist, war immer wieder für mehrere Monate in Griechenland und in Italien  - mit der Kamera in der Hand.

Kamilari ist vor etlichen Jahren zu meiner zweiten Heimat, meinem anderen Leben,  geworden. 

For my work it is not really important to be realistic and recognisable. I like the grafical disposals in the strukture of plants or trunks. I love the reflexions of light in water and the mysterious perspektive of smallest details in the folded layers of olive-nets under the trees on Crete. As well could the fainting colour on an old house be amazing to me. But my aim is not an exact reproduction of reality, although I love the beautiful structures in nature, that have been existing as fine art for ever.

Options are faszinating me, contained in motives and details, that can be discovered by digital treatments. By deviating from the basic picture, finding variations over and over again and moving to the abstraction, changing colours and cut-outs, I try to find my own place between fotography and “digital” painting, without needing painbrush and canvas.

I live in northern germany and on Crete, I have 2 adult children. Since some years I am no longer bound for professional reasons and I travelled a lot, have been in Greece and Italy for months several times   - camera in hand.

Kamilari has become my second home some years ago, is now my second live.

rwaltungsbereich und späterem Diplom als Sozialwissenschaftlerin bin ich seit einigen Jahren nicht mehr in einem Beruf gebunden. Seither hatte ich immer wieder mehrmonatige Aufenthalte in Griechenland und in Italien - viel fotografierend. Kamilari ist seit etlichen Jahren zu meiner zweiten Heimat, meinem anderen Leben,  geworden.

Studium Grafikdesign (Freiburg), Kultur- und Informationswissenschaften in Regensburg.
Leben und Arbeiten als Grafiker, Designer, Künstler,  in Landshut und jedes Jahr für 2 Monate in Kamilari.
Nach Kamilari kam ich mit 5 Jahren und ging nicht mehr weg.

Heute bin ich 42.
